2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ Unveiled: 926 km Range, 800V Charging & Major Tech Overhaul

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the updated version for the EQS. We know that the all-electric sedan is available in multiple variants, but the one that has received a major update is the 450+. In Germany, it is already available with the price of €94,403, which translates to $103,000 in the US.

The newly introduced EQS 450+ is set to be known as the 2027 model year. Reports say that its overall 13% upgrade compared to the outgoing model, and more than ¼ of the vehicle’s components are redeveloped. Here, we have discussed everything that’s updated in the new EQS 450+.

How is the new EQS 450+ different from the outgoing model?

The updated Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ doesn’t just come with cosmetic updates; there are also some major changes in its performance and features. These updates are:

  • It replaced the old 118 kWh battery and got a new one of 112 kWh without any dimensional change thanks to new silicon-based battery technology. The updated one has a WLTP range of 926 km, which translates to 575.4 miles.
  • The outgoing model of the EQS 450+ is based on 400-volt electrical architecture, but the updated one comes with 800 volts, and now it supports a DC charger up to 350 kW that adds a WLTP range of 320 km (199 miles) with just 10 minutes of charge.
  • It has got new electric drive units (EDUs) replacing the old single-speed automatic transmission with a two-speed automatic gearbox that is mounted with the rear motor, featuring the best acceleration and highway efficiency.
  • The regenerative braking is improved by 33% compared to the outgoing model; now it can generate the charge back up to 350 kW to the battery in case of braking, which helps with further improving the efficiency.
  • The vehicle is now based on a new operating system that is MB.OS, which includes a smarter MBUX AI assistant that enables natural conversations, a new user interface with an app-style layout and custom home screen, and a 3D live navigation view showing real-time surroundings.
  • Replacing the old, it comes with MICRO-LED DIGITAL LIGHT that results in a 40% bigger projection, and it’s 50% more efficient with the high beam up to 600 mm; for comfort, it features a heated seatbelt, HEPA air filtration, and smooth air suspension.
  • In terms of design, it has received subtle changes. It gets a new front hood, the lighting is slightly upgraded to give it a more modern look, and the rear light strip is also tweaked for enhancement.
Mercedes-Benz new EQS

There are some features that aren’t available in the new EQS 450+, but the upcoming version will surely get them.

  • The steer-by-wire, a future technology that removes the physical connection between the steering and front wheels. It helps with easy maneuvering and better cabin layout as well as gives an adjustable steering feel.
  • The Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), a feature that enables the vehicle to send electricity back to the power grid, and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), a feature that can power the house as a generator.

What do we know about its launch in the US?

As per reports, Mercedes-Benz may introduce the new EQS 450+ in the US most probably in the second half of 2026. The prices are yet to be disclosed, but it is more likely that it will cost around $110,000. If its launch happens with the steer-by-wire, vehicle-to-home (V2H), and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) features, it may cost more than the expectations.

What does EVCarNews think about the new EQS 450+?

The new EQS 450+ from Mercedes-Benz is quite better compared to the outgoing model because it is likely to be available in the United States market at a more affordable price than its old version was, and another notable thing is that now it comes with a larger battery, which gives better range, and even though the charging is way faster than the old one.

The regenerative braking is also improved, which further helps with better efficiency, and the new operating system has made it more high-tech. To ensure the comfort of occupants, they also have added some premium features. It may be an ideal sedan for the one who is seeking a luxury EV with smart features.
