On August 7, 2026, Deepal, the electric vehicle brand of Changan Automobile, launched the updated Deepal S05, a compact pure-electric SUV, in five variants. They are 520 Smart Travel Edition, 520 Smart Premium Edition, 520 Smart Premium LiDAR Edition, 620 Smart Premium Edition, and 620 Smart Premium LiDAR Edition.
The first one is available with the limited-time price of 115,900 yuan (US$17,170); the same for the second is 122,900 yuan (US$18,210), the third is 134,900 yuan (US$19,990), the fourth is 132,900 yuan (US$19,690), and the fifth is 144,900 yuan (US$21,470).
Once the promotional offer ends, the price for the first one will increase by 4,000 yuan (US$490), and for the last four, by 7,000 yuan (US$1,030). The delivery date for the model is still pending; some local reports suggest it will start in the next two or three weeks for all five variants.
Its dimensions in terms of length are 4,620 mm (181.9 in), width is 1,900 mm (74.8 in), height is 1,600 mm (63.0 in), wheelbase is 2,880 mm (113.4 in), and ground clearance is 169 mm (6.65 in). They are the same as the outgoing model. Still available as a five-seater in 2-3 arrangements, which have a boot of 492 liters that is expandable to 1,250 liters.
Even though the frunk (front storage trunk) remains 159 liters, which helps with carrying small items, EV owners usually use this space to carry the charging cable. Among the five variants that we have mentioned above, the first three get a 56.12 kWh battery pack, giving the 520 km CLTC range, and the last two feature 68.82 kWh that runs up to 620 km.
On the rear axle, it gets a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a one-speed automatic reduction transmission, featuring an RWD drivetrain, which generates the power of 200 kW (268 hp). The acceleration timing for 0 to 100 km/h is 6.28 seconds and 6.48 seconds for the 520 and 620 variants, respectively; the top speed is 185 km/h.
It underpins Changan’s EPA1 dedicated EV digital platform, whose electrical architecture is 400V high-voltage, supporting 3C fast DC charging. With the maximum DC charging output, it takes 15 minutes for 30 to 80 percent charging. With an 11 kW AC charger, it took 7.5 hours for a full charge for the first three variants and 8.5 hours for the last two.
All variants come with frameless doors to enhance premiumness and a 1.9 m² panoramic roof with a power sunshade to make the cabin airy and spacious. At the center of the dashboard, there’s a 15.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen infotainment system, which runs on the 3nm cockpit chip with DeepSeek LLM integration.
Inside, it also has an augmented reality head-up display, which projects the driving data on the windshield. Other notable features are heat pump AC with PM2.5 to ensure fresher air inside the cabin, a 360° surround camera with a transparent chassis to get a surround view to enhance parking practicality, and a 6 kW V2L to run external electronic devices when out.
All variants are equipped with the Tianshu Pilot Vision System; the Smart Travel and Smart Premium variants get 22 sensors, including 5 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 5 high-definition cameras featuring Highway NCA, but the Premium LiDAR variant has 27 sensors, including 1 Hesai 128-channel LiDAR, 3 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 HD cameras featuring both highway and city NCA.
The launch of the updated Deepal S05 has strengthened its positioning against the Xpeng MONA M03, Leapmotor C10, GAC Aion V, BYD Yuan Plus (Atto 3), and Geely Galaxy E5. The nameplate made its debut in the Chinese market back in October 2022; since then, it has sold more than 893,000 units, out of which 193,369 units were sold in the first seven months of 2026.
