The German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen is planning to introduce the China-developed EV for the European market. On April 30, 2026, during the media interaction, Oliver Blume, the CEO of VW, said that they may produce China-only EVs in Europe if they find out that they are suitable for local buyers.
Further, he said that we are still developing the ‘Compact Main Platform (CMP),’ which is set to be launched for the Chinese market in 2027. Once it is done, we will figure out and find the EV model we may develop in Europe that we are actually looking for.
The CMP is a platform for upcoming new energy vehicles (NEVs) from Volkswagen for the Chinese market; it is being co-developed with XPENG. At the Beijing Auto Show 2026, VW has already presented some China-only EVs that are ID. Unyx 09, ID. Aura T6, Jetta X, and AUDI E7X.
