BYD Great Tang EV

BYD Auto has started the presale for Great Tang, an all-electric D-class SUV under the brand’s Dynasty Network series, in China with the price between 250,000 and 320,000 yuan, equivalent to 36,200 to 46,400 US dollars. Its launch may happen in late May 2026, and delivery may start shortly after that. In the Chinese market, its main competitors are Li Auto L8, Nio ES8 and XPeng G9.

The car is available with a seating capacity of seven people in a layout of 2-2-3. The second row seats are caption type which gives a more comfortable seating position. The pre-sale has started for multiple variants, and they vary also in terms of dimensions. The length is 5263 mm and 5302 mm, and the height is 1790 mm and 1800 mm, but the width and wheelbase are the same; they are 3130 mm.

Design & Exterior

The Great Tang design is highly inspired by the Chinese cultural aesthetic with modern trends. On its front-end roof, there’s a LiDAR sensor, a component of the ADAS, which makes the driving semi-autonomous. To make the upfront look wide, the vehicle features a full-width LED DRL bar, and vertically stacked headlamps improve the night visibility and also add the modern touch.

On the sides, it gets hidden door handles that reduce drag and improve efficiency. The window trims are chrome in colour to enhance its premium touch. Get large alloy wheels that feature a multiple-spoke design for better road grip. The full-width LED tail light strip is also at the rear mirror, the front lighting profile, and the minimalist tailgate with smooth surfaces to give it a clean but modern look.

Interior & Features

The Great Tang’s cabin is equipped with multiple screen. The front row gets three large touchscreens: one is placed before the driver as a digital instrument cluster, the second is at the centre as an infotainment system that acts as a control panel, and the third is before the front seating capacity for his/her entertainment. All these are powered by a 3nm cockpit chip.

There’s also a 17-inch screen that is mounted on the ceiling and can be controlled through the connected features. It is for the rear-seating passengers for their entertainment. To ensure an immersive sound experience inside the cabin, it features a 27-speaker Devialet audio system. Also get some convenience features; their highlights are a built-in refrigerator, fold-out tray tables, and wireless charging pads.

The front and second row seats come with a zero-gravity function, and third row seats get separate armrests. The ventilation, heating and massage functions are available in both first and second-row seats. The 6.34 m² panoramic glass roof makes the cabin experience more premium. The vehicle comes with LiDAR God’s Eye ADAS system for a stress-free and safe driving experience.

Powertrain & Performance

The Great Tang comes with two drivetrains, which are RWD and AWD. The rear-wheel-drive configuration vehicle comes with a single motor that is mounted on the rear axle, and the all-wheel-drive trim car gets motors, one on the front axle and the other on the rear axle. The power output for the car with the RWD drivetrain is 300 kW (402 hp), and the same for the vehicle with the AWD configuration is 585 kW (784 hp).

The vehicle is available with a single next-generation blade battery pack of 130.15 kWh, whose CLTC range for RWD trims is 950 km, but for the AWD variant it runs only 850 km, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km in 3.9 seconds. It supports BYD’s megawatt-level ultra-fast charging that takes only 5 minutes for a 10-70% charge; for charging up to 97%, it takes only 9 minutes. Even in extreme cold conditions, the time is just increased by 3 minutes.
