The adoption of passenger EVs in India is taking place at a good pace. In May 2026, the Indian automobile market registered the sale of a total number of 26,398 units of electric cars; compared to the previous month, the sales increased by 7%. Let’s have a closer look at May 2026 passenger EV sales figures.
Tata Motors is the one who leads the ranking with the sale of 10,297 units, which translates to a 39% market share; the carmaker that got the second spot with the sale of 6,072 units and a market share of 23% is Mahindra & Mahindra, and the brand that ranked third is JSW MG Motor India with a sales figure of 4,989 and a market share of 18.90%.
Among the top 5, the fourth is Maruti Suzuki with sales of 1,584 units and a market share of 6%, and the fifth one is VinFast India with a sales figure of 1,241 and a 4.7% market share. In May 2026, these five companies alone commanded 91.6% of the market share with a total sales of 24,181 units. The remaining 8.3% share is accompanied by BYD, Kia, Hyundai, and BMW with sales figures of 2,217 units.
Compared to April 2026, the sales of Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra & Mahindra increased by 993, 253, and 208 units, respectively, but VinFast India’s sales decreased by 49 units and JSW MG Motor India’s by 431. The first three recorded a positive sales increase of 0.1068%, 0.1901%, and 0.0355%, but the last two recorded a degrowth of 3.80% and 7.95%.

Moving to the top 5 passenger EV sales in May 2026. The one that ranked 1st is the MG Windsor EV with a total of 3,296 units; the second position is held by the Mahindra XEV 9S with a sales figure of 3,242; third is the Tata Punch EV with 3,225 units; fourth is the Tata Nexon EV with around 2,700 units; and 5th is the MG Comet EV with around 1,900 units.
The Windsor EV is available for sale with the ex-showroom price of ₹13.49 lakh to ₹18.60 lakh and comes with two different battery LFP packs, 38 kWh, giving the 332 km ARAI-certified range, and 52.9 kWh, which runs up to 449 km.
The XEV 9S costs ex-showroom between ₹19.95 lakh up to ₹29.45 lakh with two LFP battery packs that are 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh, whose ranges are 521 km, 600 km, and 679 km, respectively.
The Punch EV has a retail price between ₹9.69 Lakh and ₹12.59 Lakh; the offered LFP battery packs are 30 kWh and 40 kWh. The standard pack gives a ARAI-certified range of 365 km, but the larger one runs up to 468 km.
The Nexon EV cost ex-showroom range from ₹12.49 Lakh to ₹17.49 Lakh, also offered with two LFP battery packs that are 30 kWh and 45 kWh, giving the ARAI-certified range of 275 km and 480 km, respectively.
The Comet EV is available for sale with the ex-showroom price starting from ₹7.63 Lakh and goes upto ₹10.00 Lakh. It is available with a single battery pack that is 17.3 kWh, whose ARAI-certified range is 230 kmph.
