JSW Motor, the joint venture between the JSW Group and Chery Automobile, will make its Indian debut around the festive season 2026. Reports confirm that the first car they are going to launch in the Indian market will be based on Chery’s Jetour T2, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
The nameplate for the model has been officially confirmed; the SUV will go on sale in the Indian market with the JSW Combat nameplate.

The JSW Combat is a soon-to-be-launched off-roader SUV from the JSW Motor for the Indian market, which comes with a seating capacity of 5 people in a 2-3 layout. In terms of design, it is offered with an upright stance and body figure that gets full LED lighting, a spare wheel on the tailgate, and rugged wheel arches cladding.
This upcoming car will come with a plug-in hybrid electric powertrain, meaning it will run on battery as an electric vehicle and also on fuel when the battery charge depletes. It has an electric motor that moves the wheel, an internal combustion engine to power the power, and also a battery pack which needs to be plugged in for charging.

What will be the size of the upcoming JSW first car?
For this upcoming PHEV under the banner of JSW, no details are officially confirmed. Reports suggest that the size of this plug-in hybrid electric car will be the same as the model sold in the international market, Jetour T2. Notably, the overseas model has the following dimensions:
- Length: 4,785 mm
- Width: 2,006 mm
- Height: 1,880 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,800 mm
- Ground clearance: 220 mm
For clarity, compare it to the Tata Harrier, the flagship electric vehicle from Tata.Cars are 180 mm longer, 84 mm wider and 162 mm taller, with 59 mm more wheelbase and 15 mm more ground clearance.
How’s the JSW Combat exterior design going to be?
The JSW Combat design is yet to be officially unveiled by the carmaker; however, the report confirms that its design will be similar to Jetour T2, the car on which this SUV is based.
Similar design means, it will have LED headlamps being bracketed by the LED daylight running light from the four sides, and there will also be fog lamps on the front bumper for better clarity on the road during bad weather.
On the side of this car, conventional pull-type door handles, roof rails, and squared-off black wheel arch cladding will be available. Jetour T2 in-profile also confirms that for this upcoming car, the outside rear view mirror will be present on the front door, integrating the outside rear view mirror.
The rear will boast rugged bumper, vertically orientated LED taillamps, an upper-mounted braking light, a large windscreen, and flat tailgate with the side opening for early loading and unloading of the luggage.
Do we know anything about this JSW car interior features?
Like exterior design and dimensions, its interior features are also unconfirmed. However, reports suggest it will borrow most of the features that are offered with the Jetour T2, such as:
- 10.25-inch full-LCD digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel,
- 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the just above centre console,
- Double-zone automatic climate with dedicated air conditioning vents for front and rear,
- Heating and ventilation features for powered front seats, and
- Wireless phone charging pad on the centre console and USB charging port across the cabin.
As there won’t be any dimensional changes for the Indian model, it is certain that JSW Combat cargo capacity will be the same as Jetour T2, which is 580 litres and expandable up to 1,490 litres by folding the second-row seats.
Are JSW Combat powertrain details officially confirmed?
Notably, previous reports have confirmed that in India the Jetour T2-based SUV will go on sale with the same powertrain that is available for international models. Inside the hood it will have a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered internal combustion, which delivers:
- 280 kW maximum power, and
- 610 Nm peak torque.
And an electric motor on the front axle will crank 75 kW power and 170 Nm torque. The engine and electric motor are set to be mated with the 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission; they will work tandemly getting power from the 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery on EV mode, and via ICE on hybrid mode, when the battery chargers deplete.
On the EV mode, the JSW Combat will run up to 92 km on NEDC conditions, and the combined range is set to be above 1,200 km. The international-spec model supports DC chargers up to 50 kW, which take 27 minutes for 30 to 80 per cent charging, so the same for the Indian-spec model is expected.
Notably, in the overseas market this Jetour T2 is available for sale as a front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive vehicle; the one coming to India will have only one electric motor featuring an FWD drivetrain, as per earlier reports; however no report have denied the debut of AWD in future.
What about the JSW Combat launch and price?
JSW Motor is yet to confirm a date for the launch of the JSW Combat plug-in hybrid electric SUV. Various reports are suggesting that the model will go on sale near Diwali 2026. The JSW Motor, joint venture between the Indian and Chinese company, will launch the model in the Indian market as a rival to midsize SUVs with 5-person seating capacity.
