The BYD Atto 2 EV, a compact crossover all-electric SUV, which is built on BYD e-Platform 3.0, features an all-wheel-drive drivetrain. Recently, it has been spotted testing in India on public roads but wearing geometric optical camouflage wrap. The spotting has hinted that the carmaker will introduce the model to the Indian market very soon; they haven’t confirmed anything for its debut in India. We are expecting it to happen in the last quarter of 2026.
The spied image of its test mules floating on the web reveals that it is similar to one already available for sale in the international market. The spy shot shows the BYD logo on the gloss-black trim just below the hood, whose sides have LED headlights, including daylight running lights and main headlamps. Other details that the spotting has revealed are A-pillar-mounted ORVMs, alloy wheels with a petal-type design, and semi-hidden flush-type door handles.
Notably, the one coming to the Indian market is expected to be quite similar to the international model with a few tweaks on its exterior and inside the cabin to make it appealing to Indian buyers. They haven’t confirmed any details registering its powertrain; many reports suggest that it will come with the same motor setup and battery pack that is sold internationally.
The one available for sale in the international market is a permanent magnet synchronous motor with single-speed automatic transmission, whose maximum power output is 201 hp and peak torque is 310 Nm. Notably, its 0 to 100 kmph acceleration timing is 7.9 seconds, and its top speed is 170 kmph. This electric vehicle is offered with two different BYD Blade lithium-ion battery packs, which are 45.1 kWh and 64.8 kWh.
With the standard battery pack, it gives the WLTC range of 310 kilometers, but with the large one, it runs up to 430 kilometers. They are built on 400-volt electrical architecture supporting fast DC chargers up to 65 kW for the 45.1 kWh and 155 kW for the 64.8 kWh battery pack, which takes 37 minutes and 25 minutes for 10 to 80 percent charging, respectively.
The dimensions of the Indian model of BYD Atto 2 are all set to the same as the one that is sold in other countries. Its length, width, height, wheelbase, and ground clearance are 4,310 mm, 1,830 mm, 1,675 mm, 2,620 mm, and 150 mm. Notably, the one coming to India may feature the ground clearance of at least 180 mm so it can meet the Indian road conditions to easily pass the road with potholes and speed breakers.
It comes with the same seating capacity of 5 people in a 2-3 layout with the boot space of 400 liters, which is expandable up to 1,340 liters. They have also introduced a Comfort variant, which comes with the cargo capacity of 450 liters that is expandable up to 1,370 liters. Inside, it has a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard supporting smartphone connectivity.
The infotainment system is integrated with an 8-speaker sound system, which also features the “Hi BYD” voice assistant, over-the-air software updates, and Bluetooth connectivity. It also has a flat floor for improved rear legroom, 60:40 split-folding rear seats, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, 6-way electrically adjustable front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Other features with which it is offered in the internal market are an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel, a panoramic glass sunroof with an electric sunshade to add premiumness to the cabin, synthetic leather upholstery, a 50W wireless phone charging pad at the center console, ambient lighting to enhance mood, automatic climate control to make the cabin temperature stable, and vehicle-to-load to run external electronic devices.
The Atto 2 EV from BYD in the Indian market comes with similar interior features and improvements to make it a little different from the international model. As of now, there’s no word from the carmaker for the price. We are expecting that it will cost between ₹18 lakh and ₹25 lakh; following the launch, it is most likely to compete with Kia Syros EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV, Mahindra BE 6, and Maruti e-Vitara.
