BYD Song Ultra DM-i: 310 km EV Range PHEV Arrives May 28 With 800V Tech

Built Your Dreams has confirmed that they will launch the 2026 BYD Song Ultra DM-i, a plug-in hybrid electric SUV, on May 28, 2026, in China, whose price is most expected to start from 139,800 CNY, which translates to 20,600 USD. Following the launch, it is set to compete with Li Auto L6, Aito M7 and Geely Galaxy L7. Notably, its all-electric counterpart, the ‘BYD Song Ultra EV‘, was introduced for the brand on March 26, 2026, and is already available for sale in the domestic market.

Prior to its launch, many details about the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle had already emerged. Its dimensions, in terms of length, width, height and wheelbase, are 4,850 mm, 1,910 mm, 1,670 mm and 2,840 mm, respectively. The front end gets slim ‘Dragon Whisker’ LED headlamps with integrated daylight running lights, giving the modern look; triangular intakes help in keeping the engine and battery cool; the sculpted bumper adds a sporty touch; and roof-mounted LiDAR reflects that it has intelligent ADAS.

On the sides, it features double-toned powered outside rearview mirrors with side indicators that help in seeing the traffic behind, blackout window trims and wheel arches that make the side view catchy, multi-spoke large alloy wheels that enhance its road presence, and flush-type door handles that reflect premium quality and also improve efficiency; and the rear comes with full-width LED taillights with the brand’s logo at the centre, a roof-integrated spoiler, and a powered tailgate with a clean surface.

Notably, it is based on BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the hood and a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor on the front axle, whose maximum power output is 74 kW and 175 kW, respectively. Its drivetrain is front-wheel drive, and its transmission is EHS (Electric Hybrid System). The expected acceleration timing and top speed are under 8 seconds and 180 km/h, respectively.

Reportedly, the Built Your Dreams is all set to introduce two blade lithium iron phosphate battery packs that are 26.6 kWh and 38 kWh, which run up to 205 kilometres and 310 kilometres, respectively, after the full charge, on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle condition. Built on 800-volt electrical architecture and likely to support a DC charger up to 60 kW, which may take only 25-30 minutes for 30 to 80 per cent charging.

All set to be introduced with a seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2-3, as the length is small as the EV counterpart, it may also feature a cargo capacity of 730 litres that can be expanded up to 1,659 litres; however, the carmaker is yet to reveal it. Its interior is most expected to be quite similar to the BYD Song Ultra EV; it may get a 15.6-inch digital instrument cluster at the centre of the dashboard and act as a control panel in the cabin, as most of the settings are touch-based.

Reportedly, it will feature a two-spoke steering wheel with very few physical buttons, under which, i.e., before the driver seat, there will also be a 10.25-inch display as a digital instrument cluster showing all the driving-related data. The cabin is also expected to be equipped with a 26-inch windscreen head-up display that projects driving details to ensure that the one driving needn’t look below at the dashboard to see speed or any other details; it helps the driver stay focused on driving.

The front-row seats are set to be electronically adjustable with a memory function; they will also feature heating, ventilation and massage functions to ensure better comfort. The rear seats will support reclining, and there will be separate AC vents with both heating and cooling features so the occupants feel comfortable in both during the hot days and cold weather. Ambient lighting, a multi-speaker sound system, a wireless charging pad, and a panoramic sunroof are also expected, which enhances the premiumness.
