On September 2, 2026, the Jaecoo J5 EV was launched in the Malaysian market with the price of RM118,800 (₹25 lakh). Compared to the ICE-powered variant, it is just RM10,000 (₹2.35 lakh) costlier. The newly launched model is all set to compete with the Proton e. MAS 7 and BYD Atto 3.
They have launched the model in Malaysia by locally assembling it at the Chery Corporate Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam. It is the first electric vehicle from Chery’s Jaecoo for the Malaysian market.
Seating, space, and dimensions.
The Jaecoo J5 EV is a five-door B-segment sport utility vehicle that comes with a seating capacity of 5 people in a 2-3 layout. Two seats are available in the first row and three in the second row. A cargo capacity of 480 liters is available behind the second row to help with carrying luggage.
The boot space can be expanded by folding the second-row seat. The company says that the cargo capacity can be increased to 1,284 liters. It also has a trunk (front trunk storage) of 35 liters; owners may use this space to carry the small items or keep the tool and charging cable.
The length is 4,380 mm, the width is 1,860 mm, and the height is 1,650 mm, giving it the proportions of a mid-size SUV. Its wheelbase measures 2,620 mm, giving ample legroom for rear-seat occupants and also keeping the vehicle stable at high speed, and ground clearance stands at 174 mm, which is good enough to pass the road with potholes.
Exterior design.
Outside, it has integrated LED headlights, the daylight running light bracket, and the main headlamps, which are connected with the black trim in the center that has the Jaecoo lettering brand. The air intakes are placed below. Features a round arch wheel cladding, pull-type handles for the door, and A-pillar-mounted ORVMs integrating a side indicator.

Sit on double-toned alloy wheels and get black lower body cladding. Roof-integrated rear spoilers also integrate a slim horizontal braking light. It has a through-type rectangular LED taillight on the tailgate that is also connected with black trim that has “Jaecoo” lettering similar to the front end. It has a rugged-style rear bumper.
Underpinning, suspension, and braking.
Built on the Chery T1X, it features a front-wheel-drive drivetrain, making it ideal for city driving and daily commuting. Its front and rear suspension are MacPherson strut and multi-link independent, respectively, providing a balance among comfort, handling stability, and ride quality.

Its front and rear wheels get ventilated disc brakes and disc brakes, respectively, with the anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist system, electronic stability control, and traction control system to enhance braking performance and occupant safety.
Interior features and technology.
Its cabin has a D-shape two-spoke steering wheel, under which there’s a slim 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster. The dashboard’s center has a 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Sets have faux-leather upholstery with blue piping and stitching.

It has a 1.45-meter panoramic glass roof with a powered sunshade. The co-passenger and driver are powered and also ventilated. Its central console has a 50W wireless phone charging pad. It also comes with the in-car karaoke mode, pet mode, and camping mode. Other notable features are the double-glazed front windows and heated ORVMs with memory function.
Motor setup, battery pack, range, and other details.
A permanent magnet synchronous motor is mounted on the front axle; the same is mated with a single-speed automatic transmission. The PMSM delivers the power of 211 PS (155 kW) and 288 Nm, can help the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, and has a top speed of 170 km/h.
Beneath the floor, it has a 58.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack giving the WLTP range of 402 km. It can support a DC charger up to 130 kW, which takes 28 minutes for 30 to 80 percent charging. With a standard AC charger of 11 kW, it takes 7 hours for 10 to 100 percent charging.
