Chery and Jaguar Land Rover’s Freelander 8 presale began on August 14, 2026, within 48 hours of which a total of 10,000 pre-orders were received, as per the brand’s claim. The number of presales shows that drivers in China are preferring it over other vehicles. The actual sales figures after the launch may be different from what the company has experienced with the presale.
Not all the presale is set to turn into an actual purchase, because many buyers change their minds because of price and other factors when the launch happens. A market launch is anticipated in September 2026, also starting the delivery, as production already has begun from July 30, 2026. If delivery begins in the month we are expecting, then the actual sale figures through the CPCA will be available in the public domain by November 10, 2026.
Presale booking update
The CJLR has only shared that after starting pre-orders for the Freelander 8 extended-range electric sport utility vehicle, they got more than 10,000 bookings just for a time duration of 48 hours. They made this announcement by releasing the poster online on Weibo. The presale is taking place for both five-seaters and six-seaters, a total of five variants, but they haven’t made public any breakdown of the same.

Reportedly, among the five variants of the Freelander 8, the one that gets the majority of the pre-orders is the First Edition, available with only 1,000 units with a promotional offer price of 449,900 yuan, which translates to 66,260 USD. The brand has set as an aim 300,000 units in annual global sales in the next 3 to 5 years; if the strong pre-order number turns out to deliver figures, then it will be an impressive start for the brand in the Chinese market.
Vehicle’s core specs
As an extended-range electric SUV, it gets a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol-powered ICE under the bonnet and two electric motors, one mounted on each axle. The internal combustion engine for the SUV acts as a generator to power the motor and charge the battery when the battery pack is depleted.
The combined power output of electric motors is 610 kW, and peak torque is 813 Nm, which makes 0 to 100 km/h acceleration possible in 4.6 seconds. To drive the vehicle in pure-electric mode, it has a 60.3 kWh CATL Freevoy lithium-ion battery pack, which gives a range of 310 km on CLTC conditions. Built on 800 volts and supports 6C charging, which takes 12 minutes for 20% to 80% charging.

The first seat is available in 2-3 layouts, and six have 2-2-2 arrangements with caption chairs in the middle row. Features dual-chamber air suspension with CCD damping to enhance driving experience on rough terrain and up to 10° rear-wheel steering, reducing turning radius significantly.
Equipped with Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 with 896-channel LIDAR on the roof, getting powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip, which features multi-sensor fusion for perception, spot-to-spot 3.0 assisted driving, advanced navigation cruise assist, and other smart features. The cabin’s upper dashboard has a 46.3-inch 8K panoramic display and a 15.6-inch Mini LED touchscreen infotainment system in the center.

Following the launch of Freelander 8, Chery JLR will introduce it in the European market. The most expected date for its launch in the United Kingdom is the first quarter of 2027. As of now, there’s no update on its launch in the Indian market. JRL already operates in India, and Chery is set to make its debut in the near future with the JSW Motors collaboration, so we are expecting that they may also launch this model in India.
