Next-Gen Geely Preface (FS21) Spotted: i-HEV Hybrid, 313 hp, Price from $17,000

The successor of Preface (FS11) from Chinese automaker Geely, Next-Gen Preface (FS21). its production-ready spy shots have surfaced online. However, it is highly camouflaged. The company revealed the prototype of the vehicle during the launch of the i-HEV hybrid technology.

As of now, official launch date yet to be confirmed. Reports say that it may make its domestic debut in the last quarter of 2026 and launch by early 2027. Geely started the presale on April 19, 2026, for the new Preface with i-HEV hybrid technology, with the price ranging from 107,700 to 119,700 yuan (15,600 to 17,300 dollars).

It is expected that the Next-Gen Preface will be available with the price of 120,000 to 160,000 yuan (17,000 to 22,500 dollars) for the i-HEV hybrid, and the PHEV of the Next-Gen Preface will also arrive, whose price may be 150,000 to 200,000 yuan (21,000 to 28,000 dollars).

Underpinning & Technology

The current preface is based on CMA (Compact Modular Architecture), but the next-gen preface will be based on i-CMA architecture, designed for hybrid and intelligent vehicles. Notably, it integrates the powertrain, chassis, and electronics into one system.

Besides the i-CMA architecture, the car is set to come with the i-HEV Intelligent Hybrid System, which features an AI-based energy management system and optimizes fuel usage, battery usage, and driving conditions using real-time data, which includes temperature, altitude, and driving style.

Another tech highlight is that the vehicle will feature intelligent driving technology that includes LiDAR sensors, cameras with radar fusion, and a high computing platform. It comes with the Qianli Haohan H5 driving assist system featuring highway autopilot, urban navigation assist, auto lane change, and smart parking.

Notably, the car will come with an Electrical & Electronic (E/E) architecture that is built on a full-domain AI 2.0 system. It controls the powertrain, chassis, cockpit, and ADAS (advanced driving assistant system).

Powertrain & Performance Expectations

The Next-Gen Preface will first come with the i-HEV hybrid system, then the PHEV will be offered. The i-HEV variant is all set to feature a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a P3 electric motor under the hood. Its transmission is set to be a 3-speed DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission), and the drivetrain is front-wheel drive.

The maximum power output of i-HEV hybrid technology is 313 hp (230 kW) with acceleration timing from 0 to 30 km/h (0 to 18.64 mph) of 1.84 seconds; fuel efficiency is 3.98 liters for 100 km of drive on the WLTC scale; and thermal efficiency is 48.4%.

The PHEV will come a few months after the launch of the i-HEV, which may also come with the same engine but with an electric motor on the front axle featuring an AWD drivetrain. The transmission may also remain 3-speed DHT. It will feature a small battery that may give an all-electric range around 150 km.

Exterior & Interior

The image of Next-Gen Preface surfacing online doesn’t reveal anything about its exterior, as the vehicle is highly camouflaged. But it is noticeable that the design seems to be totally inspired by the prototype, which has a waterfall-style grille and three-segment DRLs at the front, a fastback-style roofline and smooth & aerodynamic body at the sides, and sleek LED taillights and a sporty bumper at the back.

The interior is expected to be somehow the same as the current preface but with a few cosmetic changes such as feature upgrades. Many reports say that it will feature a large infotainment system at the center of the dashboard with a digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel that shows driving data. It may also get an AR-HUD, which projects driving data on the windshield.
