India Electric Car Sales August 2026: Tata Leads as Top 10 EV Brands Register 30,051 Units

In August 2026, four-wheeler electric vehicle registration figures were officially made public; the top ten brands cumulatively sold a total of 30,051 units, as per Vahan registration data as of September 3, 2026. These top ten brands are Tata. Cars: Mahindra Auto, MG, VinFast, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, BYD, Toyota and Citroën

On the year-on-year basis, the sales of the top ten brands have increased by 53.1% with 10,422 more sales, but on a month-on-month basis, the delivery decreased by 11.1% with 3,740 fewer sales. Let’s have a closer look at August 2026 sales.

August 2026 electric car registration. 

The sale figures for the four-wheeler passenger electric vehicle, including for August 2026 in India, are 30,051, including 13,158 of Tata. Cars: 6,464 of Mahindra Auto, 4,622 of MG, 2,199 of VinFast, 1,412 of Maruti Suzuki, 803 of Hyundai, 645 of Kia, 543 of BYD, and 161 of Toyota. 

Among them, the brand that sold the most number of vehicles is Tata. Car, followed by the Mahindra Auto, and then others come into the list. In the list of top ten companies who sold the most number of electric cars in India in August 2026, three are Indian automobile manufacturers; notably, they also fall under the top five list. 

Top 5 brand-wise e-car market share, YoY & MoM growth.

Tata. Cars have the 43.8% market share in the top 10 sellers; currently they are selling seven pure-electric models: Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV, Harrier EV and Sierra EV. On a YoY and MoM basis, their sales increased by 63.2% with 5,094 units and decreased by 8.5% with 1,216 fewer units, respectively.

Mahindra Auto’s market stands at 21.5% at the top of electric car sales; they have sold five EVs: XUV400, XUV 3XO EV, BE 6, XEV 9e, and XEV 9S. Its sales on a YoY basis have increased by 56.2% with 2,325 more sales, but on the MoM basis, the sales number decreased by 20.1% with 1,629 fewer deliveries.

MG is selling four EVs in the Indian market, such as the Comet EV, Windsor EV, ZS EV, and Hector Tomahawk EV; the company’s market share in the top 10 is 15.4%. On a month-on-month and year-on-year basis, the sales have decreased by 17.8% with 1,000 fewer deliveries and by 22.2% with 1,320, respectively.

VinFast’s market share in the top 10 EV sales companies is 7.3%; they are selling three models: VF 6, VF 7, and VF MPV 7. They are new in the Indian market, so the year-on-year basis comparison is not applicable for it, but on a month-on-month basis, their sales have increased by 43.5% with 667 more units.

Maruti Suzuki’s market share in the top 10 is 4.7%. They are selling only one pure-electric model in the Indian market, and that is the e-Vitara. This company recently launched this EV in the Indian market, so comparing it to the YoY basics comparison isn’t possible; on a month-on-month basis, its sales decreased by 15.3% with 255 fewer units.

Upcoming electric car launch in India by 2026-27.

Very soon, Tata. Cars will launch the Tata Tigor EV facelift, and then they are all set to introduce the flagship seven-seater SUV, Tata Safari EV, by festive season. Hyundai also confirmed a sub-4-metre electric SUV for the Indian market by late 2026. Reports suggest that the VinFast VF 3, the compact SUV, will make its debut here by late 2026. Honda’s electric car slate for the launch by early 2027.

A report suggests that Maruti Suzuki is also working on a small electric car for the Indian market; if reports are to be believed, it can be the recently unveiled Suzuki e Sky for the Japanese. Mahindra Auto also unveiled the plan to launch the second vehicle under the BE family, which is highly anticipated to be known as BE 7.
