As of now, there’s a total of three electric cars in the Indian market with the ex-showroom price under 10 lakh rupees. Among them, the first is a micro hatchback, the MG Comet EV; the second is a five-door hatchback, the Tata Tiago EV; and the third is a micro SUV, the Tata Punch EV.
The Comet EV is available with the starting ex-showroom price from ₹7.50 lakh, the Tiago EV with ₹7.99 lakh and the Punch EV with ₹9.69 lakh. Let’s have a closer look at each.
MG Comet EV

It comes with a two-door seating capacity of 4 people, a seating capacity of 2-2. There’s no boot space when all seats are up; folding the rear seats makes a cargo capacity of 350 litres that helps in carrying two big pieces of luggage. Inside the cabin, it features a 7-inch digital instrument cluster under the steering wheel that shows all the driving data.
There’s no infotainment touchscreen; the car comes with a basic two-speaker audio system with Bluetooth music and calling. For safety, it gets a rear parking sensor, ABS with EBD, ESC, TMPS, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and two airbags at the front; and keyless entry with a remote key as security features.
It features a permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle featuring a rear-wheel drive drivetrain; its transmission is single-speed automatic. Its power output is 41 bhp, and peak torque is 100 Nm, which accelerates it from 0 to 60 km/h in 6.9 seconds and makes it go up 101 km/h. Features a battery pack of 17.3 kWh, giving the ARAI-certified range of 230 km.
Tata Tiago EV

Offered with a seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2-3 and having a boot space of 240 litres that can be extended by folding the rear seats to carry big luggage. The car’s entry-level variant doesn’t have any infotainment system, but there’s a 4-inch digital instrument cluster under the tiltable flat-bottom steering wheel that shows driving data.
Features automatic climate control, manual front and rear windows, and dual front airbags for safety during the collision. Other notable safety features are the anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution, which prevents wheel locking and distributes braking force among the wheels for safe braking; TPMS; and rear parking sensors.
Use a 19.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that gives the ARAI-certified range of 250 km. Its drivetrain is FWD, and transmission is single-speed automatic. Get a single electric motor on the front axle, which generates the power of 60 bhp and torque of 110 Nm, respectively. To accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h, it takes 6.2 seconds, and the top speed goes up to 120 km/h.
Tata Punch EV

Features the seating capacity of 5 people in a layout of 2 and 3 with a cargo capacity of 366 litres. The rear seats are folding, which enables carrying larger luggage. The base variant ‘Smart’ doesn’t have any touchscreen for the infotainment system, but there’s a 4-inch semi-digital TFT display as an instrument cluster.
It comes with a black and white theme, seats are made up of premium fabric seats, and it gets a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated ‘Tata’ logo. Features two drive modes that are city and sport, auto AC, front power windows, and an electric tailgate for convenience. Other notable features are 6 airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, TPMS and rear parking sensors.
It features an electric motor on the front axle featuring FWD drivetrain; it also uses single-speed automatic transmission. The power output is 87 bhp, and peak torque is 154 Nm, which makes its acceleration from 0 to 60 km/h in 5.8 seconds. With a battery pack of 30 kWh, it gives an ARAI-certified range of 375 km.
